Summer is now officially here, and we Texans know that many hot days soon follow. Stay cool! Take a vacation. Relax and pray for more rain.
It has been just long enough from the last day of regular school that the Vacation Bible School format proved to be a success with the students who enjoyed congregating again with their peers.
At least that was the good news at the Holy Cross Catholic Church VBS in June.
As at all such gatherings, there was a common theme. This year the students were invited to become “God’s Team.”
A wonderful group of adults, teens and parents acted together as coaches, equipment managers and hot dog and concession vendors.
Each grade selected a special name for their team and painted t-shirts and banners to foster enthusiasm for their “God’s Team.” All learned some lively songs.
The World Cup was being played out in Brazil at the same time. Many folks around these parts were following the brand, USA. Colors of red, white and blue festooned many banners and faces. All sorts of articles and stuff bore that brand, USA.
It reminded me of the old days when we were taught by the nuns to brand each of our school papers with JMJ (Jesus, Mary and Joseph). Or the Jesuit boys were instructed to put AMDG (ad majorem Dei gloriam)(to the greater glory of God) on their homework papers.
All of us are members of God’s faith-filled loving team. Learn, love and live the brand! LDM.
