Thank you veterans

Sunday, November 10, 2019

Throughout the history of our country, men, and women, of all faiths have been called or volunteered for service in defense of our nation.
They have served throughout the world, in aid of other nations, in defense of attacks on our own country, to fight tyranny or to support the ideals of freedom and democracy that have been the foundation of our country since its founding.

There have been times that policies, some may say, have led to putting soldiers in danger for the sake of partisan politics or economic interests and that many have paid the ultimate price on the battlefield while others returned perhaps wounded on the outside, scarred on the inside and, at some point in our country, vilified by a public whose ideals they were sent to defend.

Those battles may never end as long as there is war, but it should not distract from the gratitude reserved for these men and women who have answered the call to defend not only American ideals, but also the foundation of freedom.

Each year, Nov. 11 is reserved for Veteran’s Day, an opportunity to thank veterans, active and retired, for their service to our country and the world.

Numerous Catholic parish and school communities within the Diocese of Dallas have ministries to support veterans, including parades, flag displays and programs. The Texas Catholic also would like to salute our veterans for their service to the ideals of freedom.
