Chris Rebuck will become Bishop Lynch High School’s new president, effective July 1, 2015.
Bishop Kevin J. Farrell made the announcement during a Dec. 5 all-school morning assembly at the campus. The hire of Rebuck means that for the first time in 33 years a new president will lead the school.
“First and foremost I’d like to thank Bishop Farrell for the opportunity that he’s given me and the confidence that he has in me being the leader of our Catholic community here at Bishop Lynch High School,” said Rebuck, who was given a standing ovation from students, faculty, staff and alumni. “I am humbled by the opportunity to be a servant-leader here at our Catholic school.”
Rebuck, a native of Charleston, S.C., will replace outgoing president Ed Leyden, who announced his retirement at the beginning of the 2014-2015 school year. At the time of his hire in 1982, Leyden was the first lay president of Bishop Lynch. He has since overseen a number of major facility improvements, including the current Veritas campaign, and spurred the growth of the student body to 1,085, making it the largest private co-ed school in Texas.
For the past seven years, Rebuck has been the school’s Dean of Students. Prior to arriving at Bishop Lynch, he held the prinicpal’s post at St. John Catholic School in Ennis. At 37, he becomes the youngest president of a Catholic high school in the Diocese of Dallas.
Rebuck told those in attendance that while much has been accomplished at Bishop Lynch, more work is still to be done.
“Bishop Lynch has made a mark on the Diocese of Dallas,” Rebuck said. “My prayers are for you and for this community as we move into the future. I’m so excited to be here with all of you and I’m so grateful in accepting this opportunity to become president of Bishop Lynch High School.”
