Bishop Kevin Farrell

Offering prayers, congratulations to Bishop Seitz

Monday, July 8, 2013

Bishop Mark J. Seitz will be installed as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of El Paso on Tuesday, July 9.

By Bishop Kevin J. Farrell

It is always a joyful occasion when a new shepherd is installed in his diocese, but it is particularly special when the new bishop is one of your own.

Such will be the case on Tuesday, July 9, when Bishop Mark Joseph Seitz is installed as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of El Paso. Bishop Seitz is a priest of the Diocese of Dallas and has served here as Auxiliary Bishop for the past three years.

He is one of our own, a product of Holy Trinity Seminary, who has served our diocese as parochial vicar, pastor, vice-rector of the seminary and finally as auxiliary bishop.

It is an honor for a priest of the diocese to be chosen by Pope Francis to serve the Church of El Paso. The El Paso diocese was the first-born of the many daughter dioceses carved out of the Diocese of Dallas, having been erected in 1914

Bishop Seitz will be installed by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, Metropolitan of the Province of San Antonio. Bishop Douglas Deshotel and I will join Archbishop Garcia-Siller and  other bishops and priests in concelebrating the installation Mass.

Please join me in offering your prayers and congratulations to Bishop Seitz.

Bishop Kevin J. Farrell is the seventh bishop of Dallas. Read his blog at bishopkevinfarrell.org.
